Our June 2004 Tournament
Before the morning start of the tournament archers show a variety of archery tackle during their warm-up shots.
|
Durham Archers successfully hosted the first of two 2004 scheduled 3D tournaments on
Sunday, June 27. The tournament drew eighty-seven competitors in a number of categories.
Durham Archers’ two courses, a total of 40 targets, were open to competitors, who shot 20
targets shot in the morning and the remaining 20 after lunch. Archers in every category saw targets
that were challenging and exciting. Varied shooting distances were marked with red, yellow, blue and

| white stakes, following 3D rules set out by the Ontario Association of Archers.
The two courses provided an interesting collection of shooting challenges — up and down
angles, across valleys, through tunnels between trees, and over open fields. Maximum
distances ranged from about 20 to 50 yards for almost every type and size of 3D target,
even an alligator.
Visitors had high praise for the course design, describing it as a lot of fun and a great test, even for
the best 3D archers. Everyone enjoyed the beauty of our setting, reminding them of a conservation area

Visiting archer Dave McQuaker took first in Men’s Bowhunter Unlimited with a total score of 388.

with its scenic woods and groomed paths that track the targets and circle our
club’s privately stocked bass pond.
John Logeman, President of Durham Archers, says, "We are very proud of our club. As visiting
archers saw during this tournament, our club is both very challenging and beautiful. One of the
competitors, a pro shooter from the U.S., told me our club ranks with some of the best pro circuit
courses at which he’s competed. I want to

| thank everyone who participated for making this a great
tournament. I am grateful to the many club members who worked hard and generously gave their time
to make this a great 3D archery club."
Following the June 27 tournament, the two courses are available for the shooting enjoyment of
our members. The second 3D tournament will be held Sunday, August 22, again starting at 10:00 a.m.

This big elk was one of the challenging targets. It’s a down angle shot of about 35° through a tunnel in the trees, but is it 40 yards, 50 yards, or somewhere between?
